There’s a chill in the air here in Central New York and that means just one thing: winter is on the way. Now is the perfect time to get your wardrobe ready for the months ahead. Organizing your clothes by season is a great way to reduce clutter in your closet and make getting dressed in the morning easier. Here’s how to do it: 1. Weed out summer clothing – Before you pack away your summer clothes (or even just move them to the back of the closet) look at them with a critical eye. Is anything too worn to make it through another season? Are there things you didn’t wear all summer? Send those items to the trash or donation bag so you can start fresh next spring. 2. Assess your fall and winter clothing – Has your life changed since last year? Maybe you have a new job that requires different attire, or your office has adopted a more casual dress code. Take inventory to make sure you have the clothes you will need in the coming months, and donate the items that don’t fit your current lifestyle. 3. Think about your wardrobe as a whole – We often buy clothes on impulse without thinking how they will work with what we already own. Make your life easier by building a wardrobe of basics in neutral colors (think black, white, gray, khaki, and denim), with just a few colorful or trendy items thrown in for fun. You can make outfits look very different simply by mixing up your accessories. This approach is also known as a Capsule Wardrobe. 4. Prep your cold-weather gear – Do your winter coats need to be cleaned? Are your boots in good shape? Now is the time to address these items and dig out the hats, gloves, and scarves so you’ll be ready when the snow starts.
